Product Details
- Overview
-
FOG Project is a free, open-source network imaging and computer-management system. A district hosts FOG on a supported Linux server and uses PXE boot, Partclone, and a web console to capture and deploy disk images to Windows and Linux endpoints without visiting each device with removable media.
FOG is useful for labs and other repeatable on-premises deployments where staff can operate the required imaging server, storage, DHCP/PXE, and network infrastructure. It also includes task scheduling and selected endpoint actions, but districts remain responsible for server security, backups, image maintenance, driver strategy, multicast design, and testing against current hardware and operating systems.
- Features
-
Network imaging
- Captures and deploys disk images through PXE-based workflows and supports unicast or multicast deployment according to network design.
- Uses a centralized web console to organize hosts, groups, images, storage nodes, and scheduled tasks.
Endpoint operations- Provides hostname changes, inventory, Wake-on-LAN, disk wiping, memory and disk tests, and snap-in deployment for supported clients.
- Capabilities vary by client operating system and FOG version.
District-managed infrastructure- Runs on a district-controlled Linux server and depends on properly configured storage, DHCP/PXE, routing, and permissions.
- Open-source operation requires local technical ownership, testing, patching, and recovery procedures.
