Overview

TELL is Pearson’s Test of English Language Learning, a tablet-delivered K–12 assessment for screening, diagnosing, and monitoring listening, speaking, reading, and writing. It uses automated scoring, including speech-recognition-supported tasks, and returns reports shortly after administration.

Districts can use TELL as a local language-proficiency measure to inform placement and instruction, but it does not replace California’s required ELPAC assessments. Districts should align administration, accommodations, score interpretation, data access, and retention with the intended use of the assessment.
