Discussion Tool Argumentation Grades 6–12+
Kialo Edu is a free education platform for mapping arguments and facilitating structured discussion. It is intended primarily for secondary and postsecondary learners examining debatable questions, with students, teachers, debate coaches, and content-area educators using it to support structured discussion, claims, evidence, counterarguments, source evaluation, and civic discourse.
Learners contribute pro and con claims, attach evidence, evaluate reasoning, and navigate a visual argument map synchronously or asynchronously. Districts should evaluate how the product fits adopted curriculum, student needs, instructional time, and the work educators must do around it.

Audience and instructional role
- Grades / learners: secondary and postsecondary learners examining debatable questions
- Primary users: students, teachers, debate coaches, and content-area educators
- Learning focus: structured discussion, claims, evidence, counterarguments, source evaluation, and civic discourse — a free education platform for mapping arguments and facilitating structured discussion
How it supports learning- Learners contribute pro and con claims, attach evidence, evaluate reasoning, and navigate a visual argument map synchronously or asynchronously.
- Teachers should connect use to explicit learning goals and inspect student work rather than rely on completion, time-on-task, or engagement alone.
Implementation and instructional decisions- Teachers must establish norms, source expectations, moderation, accessibility, and assessment; balanced trees should not imply that every claim has equal evidentiary weight.
- Districts should confirm accessibility, language support, student-data practices, assignment workflow, reporting, and the continuing role of teacher judgment.
