GAT Labs for Education is a suite for auditing, managing, automating, and securing Google Workspace for Education and ChromeOS. Its Chromebook capabilities give administrators a consolidated view of devices and activity, support bulk device actions, track location and usage, and apply monitoring or security policies beyond the basic inventory available in Google Admin Console.
The suite is broader than Chromebook fleet management: GAT+ covers Workspace auditing and administration, Shield adds real-time browser monitoring, filtering, alerts, and device tracking, Teacher Assist provides classroom screen controls, and Flow automates user, group, classroom, and device workflows. Districts should identify which modules are licensed because the available capabilities and privacy implications differ substantially.

ChromeOS inventory and control
- Categorizes and reports on Chromebooks by device, model, organizational unit, group, user, location, and operational status.
- Supports bulk assignment, transfer, disabling, re-enabling, and deprovisioning through GAT+ workflows.
Activity auditing and reporting- Reports browsing and Chrome activity by user, group, classroom, device, or serial number over selected periods.
- Provides dashboards, alerts, exports, and audit evidence across Chrome and Google Workspace services.
Security and device location- GAT Shield can monitor browsing, downloads, searches, risky content, and policy violations in real time.
- Supports geolocation and approved-location alerts intended to help identify lost, stolen, or unexpectedly moved Chromebooks.
Classroom management- Teacher Assist lets educators view student browser sessions, inspect or close tabs, push websites, and apply session-specific URL rules.
- GAT+ provides Google Classroom auditing, roster administration, attendance, classwork, and submission reporting.
Workflow automation- GAT Flow automates onboarding, offboarding, organizational-unit changes, account modifications, and selected device actions.
- Districts should review monitoring notice, data access, geolocation, screenshots, retention, role permissions, and module dependencies before deployment.
