- Overview
-
Google Sites is a general-purpose website builder included with Google Workspace that districts can use to create simple public websites, department pages, staff resources, project sites, and internal portals. It is a practical low-cost option for small districts or narrowly scoped sites when staff already work in Google’s ecosystem.
Sites makes collaborative editing and embedding Google content straightforward, but it is not a full K–12 website-management platform. Districts must supply their own information architecture, governance, accessibility review, records practices, analytics approach, domain configuration, emergency communications, and support model.
- Features
-
Simple collaborative publishing
- Lets authorized users assemble responsive pages from templates without coding and edit them collaboratively.
- Version history and Workspace sharing simplify routine maintenance.
Google Workspace content- Embeds Drive files, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, Maps, YouTube, and Calendar content.
- Sharing permissions must be tested so public visitors can reach intended resources without exposing restricted material.
Operational tradeoffs- Offers a low-cost path to a public presence but lacks many districtwide CMS workflows, mass communication features, and specialized support services.
- Districts need explicit ownership, accessibility, domain, backup, retention, and account-transition procedures.
