Product Details

Overview

VoiceThread is an asynchronous multimedia discussion and presentation platform. Teachers or students assemble slides, images, documents, and video into a shared “VoiceThread,” then participants respond around individual slides using voice, video, text, drawing, or uploaded media.

The product supports discussion, reflection, language practice, feedback, and presentations when participants cannot meet at the same time. Districts should configure student identity, sharing, moderation, retention, captioning, LMS integration, family access, and age-appropriate publishing so media does not become unintentionally public.

Student Data Privacy
Ed.VoiceThread is a signatory of the Student Privacy Pledge.

Accountability and transparency. Students working within Ed.VoiceThread are protected by student-centered policies that ensure a safe and supportive environment:
  • Students cannot private message other students.
  • All student work is transparent to administrators and faculty within the school or district.
  • Student accounts can only interact with users that educators and administrators approve.
Custom tailored policies. Administrators can set global and individualized policies for students, enabling them to either restrict or give more freedom and autonomy, as age and local school policy dictates.

Reporting and analytics. Track usage and trends for individual users or your entire institution.

Features
Creation and capture
  • Creates narrated, slide-based presentations from images, documents, video, and other supported media.
  • Districts should identify required hardware, accounts, storage, and staff skills before standardizing workflows.
Distribution and use
  • Allows participants to comment with text, audio, video, drawing, or files and to move through the discussion asynchronously.
  • Accessibility requires captions, transcripts, readable controls, and an alternative when the media format creates a barrier.
